The main aim of this blog is to interpret the Christian Order in the light of current affairs, philosophy, literature and the arts -- and vice versa. So it's about ideas. Social, political and religious comment. Links, notes on people, places, events, books, movies etc. And mainly a place where I can post half-baked ideas in the hope that other people, or the passing of time, will help me to bake them.

83 immigration detainees in the USA died in custody in 5 years
In South Africa immigrants have died at the hands of xenophobic mobs, rather than at the hands of government agencies.

O gees, this is news to me. And I thought I was on top of U.S. immigration news.
In the U.S., most people detained for being in the country without official permission are placed in regular jails or prisons until their case is reviewed and removal is ordered by a judge. That seemed miserable enough to me (otherwise law-abiding, working class people forced into cells with rapists, thieves and murderers) without this business of drugging.
Thanks for bringing this up.
