I hadn't heard the term before, but it had to come. We have Islamists, we have Zionists, and now we have Christianists. These are the ones evelling in the bloodshed of the Israeli bombing of Lebanon, because they believe it means the Lord's coming is near. You can read about it in Entangled States: Andrew Sullivan and World War III.
A Jewish friend of mine used to send me copies of an article Anti-Zionism is antisemitism by Martin Luther King. Now, however, it would be more accurate to say that anti-Zionism is anti-terrorism.
At the moment the Christianists seem to be applauding from the sidelines, but for how long?

"the ones evelling in the bloodshed" - I take it that was meant to be 'revelling' - but for a typo, that's very fruitful. Perhaps we should consistently use the word 'evelling' - or evilling - to describe those who rejoice in violence?
I read the article you referenced with the gushing enthusiasm over the bloodshead....reaaach! aagghhh! pheh!....sorry just an involuntary gut reaction.
Yes, it was meant to be "revelling", but after what you said I won't correct it.
After 16 years of George H.W. Bush's "New World Order", the old one of the Cold War almost seems preferable.
A true Christian is a powerful force for social justice, liberty for all and peace. I've always believed that and recognised many don't fit with the image. I'm not a Christian myself, I am a pagan, but I believe there is much we can all do to make this world a better place irrespective of what we believe may or may not lie beyond death.
Thank you for this blog entry, I found it very interesting. x
