Bush won the villain sweepstakes by a landslide, with one in four respondents putting him at the top of that bad-guy list. When people were asked to name the candidate for villain that first came to mind, Bush far outdistanced even Osama bin Laden, the terrorist leader in hiding; and former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, who is scheduled for execution..
The president was picked as hero of the year by a much smaller margin. In the poll, 13 percent named him as their favorite while 6 percent cited the troops in Iraq.
I wonder if they'll hang him.

I'm not a defender of Bush, but you will note that only 1 in 4 (just 25%) put him at the top of the list. That means 75% didn't. Hardly a resounding indictment, particularly when you know that most of us American’s are an ignorant bunch when it come to anything outside of our borders and, as a result, many don’t even know who Saddam Hussein or Osama bin Laden are.

You also forgot to mention that he topped the list of heros as well. Which shows the tendency of the two party system.
The number who thought he was a hero were only half as many as those who thought he was a villain -- and the details are in the linked article.
The point that struck me was that more people thought he was a villain than Saddam Hussein or Osama bin Laden.
I'd have more faith in the two-party system if I didn't suspect that both parties have a villain waiting in the wings for when George exits stage left.
I would gather that the results of this poll show the level of intelligence of both those who take and those who respond to polls. We are in deep deep trouble.

I'd really like someone to write a detailled article about why they think this way. Fine you don't like George, or republicans, or capitalists, but I can't sincerely see how people can make comparison like that. To me you are saying that Saddam and Osama are "better" men. I can't believe that a rational people other than their own followers really believe that. Be honest is this some form of hyperbole, a statement of frustration, trying to bring attention to your just cause, that he isn't doing things better/your way, an unrequited hatred for the man or do you really in your heart believe this? I am sincere.

I think the chances of anyone who responded to the poll reading your comment and replying to it are very slim. The poll was restricted to Americans, and I'd be guessing if I tries to say why they expressed such opinions. I don't have to live under his government, Americans do.
But since you ask, let me guess.
Saddam Hussein invaded one country. George Bush invaded two. Tony Blair was involved in starting three wars, so that makes him worse than both of them. Actually I'm not sure who started the Iran-Iraq War, so that may be a second for Saddam, which levels his score with George Bush, though still puts him below Tony Blair.
I think any head of government who starts a war of aggression is automatically a villain, and the more wars they start, the more villianous they are. I don't know if the people who indicated George Bush as villain of the year in the polls think the same way, but that's what *I* think.
Another thing that may make some Americans think he is a villain was his response to the damage caused by hurricane Katrina, the people left homeless, etc. I don't think that makes him a villain, just an incompetent blunderer.
Anyway, that's my comparison with Saddam Hussein -- starting more wars.
What about Osama bin Laden? Well, I think more innocent civilians have been killed as a result of actions masterminded by George Bush than have been killed as a result of actions masterminded by Osama bin Laden. That may have weighed on the minds of some of those who indicated Bush as a villain in the poll.
But, as I said, I'm just guessing.
my opinion on bush is that he is a hipocrate. im not occusing him completely but he has done things in the past that he has also been negative about then he does it. im not completely against him but i think he need to stop being to self centered and war bound and think more about the safety of his people in his country. now im not the most edgucated on him but i know that he has made hipacrital moves and i think he may need to correct them.
