The (mis)uses of literature

Hat-tip to Inside Candy for this pointless quiz.

Why start off the year with a pointless quiz?

Well, I was woken up at 3:00 am by the burglar alarm, and after checking to see that no one was trying to break into the house, made myself a cup of coffee and began looking at blogs because the burglar alarm company usually phone to find out if everything is all right, which they did after an hour. They said their control room had been disrupted by a storm. Happy holidays.

So this quiz asks you a bunch of pointless questions and then tells you what book you are.

So they gave me a book and a cookieless fortune cookie to add to my already long list of books to read. And it's something to do while you're waiting for the burglar alarm company to get back to you.

You're Siddhartha!

by Hermann Hesse

You simply don't know what to believe, but you're willing to try
anything once. Western values, Eastern values, hedonism and minimalism, you've spent
some time in every camp. But you still don't have any idea what camp you belong in.
This makes you an individualist of the highest order, but also really lonely. It's
time to chill out under a tree. And realize that at least you believe in
ferries.

Ferries? Well, if you have to choose something to be certain about . . .

Jenny,

I did once take a ferry across the Mersey, and I may be an old fart but I haven't got a pacemaker yet.

I don't understand your comment!!?! So now I'm worried I said something wrong. Didn't mean to offend. What's this about pacemakers?

Jenny, just an old fart's pun.

Gerry and the Pacemakers were a Liverpool pop group, and their most famous song was "Ferry cross the Mersey".

Ahh, thank you. I have an amazing ignorance about some things! But now I know something more. Thanks.

Happy New Year and Epiphany, Steve.

If you haven't read Siddhartha, I recommend it - I love all Hermann Hesse's books anyway.
