Notes from underground: US Presidential candidates redux

A couple of weeks ago I did one of those tests to see which of the US presidential hopefuls I should vote for if I were a US citizen: Notes from underground: US Presidential candidates unravelled

The answer was a tie between Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich.

Today I found another such quiz, and tried it to see if it would confirm the first one.

But this time the top candidates were Dennis Kucinich, Rudi Giuliani and Mike Gravel.

I remember Giuliani was pretty near the bottom of the previous quiz, and Kucinich has come top on both. So it looks like Kucinich is the one I should be rooting for, even if he didn't push off the top searches on Technorati.

Political Compass shows that all of them, except Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel, belong to the authoritarian right.

I'm a Paul supporter, but I respect Kucinich. It's too bad he revered his opinion on abortion when he went from local to national politics.

In the US, many Democrats at the local level are prolife. For example, my hometown, Buffalo, New York, is a one party (Democrat) town. It's a working class place, almost 75% Catholic, and very prolife.

What the Western Confucian said.

I fear Kucinich could be like Lenin: right about the war, wrong about most else. Or the end doesn't justify the means, or the enemy of my enemy isn't necessarily my friend.

Fogey,

Who is your enemy, and who is your enemy's enemy?

In this case the enemy are Bush and his neocon minders, the so-called right, and the enemy of that enemy are the left: chaps like Kucinich and perhaps Jim Wallis and the religious left.

People like the Reagan Democrats and John Murtha. Frank Rizzo's base in Philadelphia, the people Nixon used fear to play. Union men, socially conservative factory workers and so on. They're not perfect (who is?) but I like them.

I'm a John Edwards supporter, at the moment, but I respect Denis Kucinich a great deal. I believe Ron Paul is "off the charts" in most areas except the war.

Seev,

But Ron Paul is the ONLY one ON the charts at the Technorati search page, so the blogosphere is definitely interested.

Steve,
Yes, there is a lot of interest in Ron Paul in the blogosphere and elsewhere and he's raising a sizable amount of money. What he could do is take votes from the Republican nominee and insure the election of the Democrat.

Seev,

I thought Ron Paul was hoping to BE the Republican nominee.

Steve,
Right, he's hoping to BE the nominee of the Republicans. I was just projecting ahead to the time when Guiliani or Romney gets nominated and as a result, Ron Paul joins a third party movement. And even if he doesn't, he'll get a lot of write-in votes which will largely come from the Republican side. I just don't think there's any way Ron Paul will get nominated by the Republicans. The Bush pro-war base supporting Guiliani and Romney and the others is just too strong.
