EFFECT OF EXECUTION - A correspondent informs us that JOHN VANSTONE and WILLIAM LEE, were executed at Bodmin on the 1st of September, 1802, for burglary; the daughter of one of them saw her father executed and immediately afterwards went into the town and stole a loaf of bread.

I'd say that sums it up quite well. I am theoretically in support of capital punishment in certain situations where very specific conditions are met. However, I've never been one to buy the whole "capital punishment as deterrent" argument. In fact, I have my doubts that any punishment is an effective deterrent.
